  1. Hysterical. And so many of them need it in so many ways.

    • diplopi says:

There are two possible outcomes: If the result confirms the hypothesis, then you’ve made a measurement. If the result is contrary to the hypothesis, then you’ve made a discovery.
-Enrico Fermi, physicist and Nobel laureate (1901-1954) 🙂

      • Fermi could’ve been a politician.

Particularly disconcerting is the final step where data contrary to the hypothesis is routinely buried in order to publish and keep that grant money coming. (see Big Pharma)

A mix of money and science can lead to ethical corruption, which might be happening at times in the pharmacological industry.

  3. If by “at times,” you mean “standard operating procedure for any company bringing in over a billion dollars per annum,” then, yes, I agree.

  4. diplopi says:

I really hope that ‘big pharma’ aren’t infested with bad people only doing bad things for the sake of money. Yes, of course, there are certainly some bad apples out there, which has been revealed by the media, but I sincerely hope that the love of money and the habit of burying bad research results is not the standard operating procedure for the big companies in the pharmacological industry.
